Defrosting in Sri Lanka

10 days in Sri Lanka (more specifically in the South, in Hiriketiya) in February felt like stepping into a completely different version of life. After what felt like an endless stretch of grey, cold and wet winter in the UK, the warmth hit me instantly and made me miss my favourite season even more.
Mornings in Sri Lanka usually started slow, with a yoga-lesson and the sound of the ocean on the first surf session of the day, no rush, nowhere to be. We surfed twice a day (sounds pro, but is very beginner, lots of falling, lots of laughing) and there was something so freeing about it. Being in the water, trying a new sport and enjoying the process for the pure joy of learning. Every small win felt big. A perfect couterbalance to all the surfing was yoga and it became part of the rhythm too, stretching, breathing, resetting, often with the ocean just a few steps away.

Days blurred together in the best way salty hair, sun on skin, simple food, early nights. No overthinking, no pressure, just being present and actually feeling it. It’s rare to fully switch off like that, but somehow Hiriketiya made it easy for me.

I left feeling lighter, warmer (literally and mentally), and I’m already missing that slow, simple kind of happiness.
