I recently spent a few days at the Women’s Triathlon Camp in Zell am See-Kaprun and I can honestly say it was the nicest triathlon experiences I’ve had so far (it was also my first to be fair hehe).
What makes Zell am See-Kaprun so perfect for a triathlon camp is that everything is close together and made for outdoor sports. In the summer time you can even swim in the lake in Zell, for us it was still a bit too cold for that and we did our swim sessions in the hotel pool. In any case you can really focus on the activities and the training, but at the same time it feels like a proper getaway. After sessions, a lot of us would just sit together or relax at the spa and talk about training, races, nutrition, or completely random life stuff. It never felt rushed or overly serious.
And honestly, the women-only atmosphere changed everything for me. Sometimes sports events can feel competitive in a stressful way, but this one didn’t at all. The whole group was incredibly supportive from the beginning. There were women at completely different levels, some preparing for races, some newer to triathlon, but nobody cared about comparing at all. People encouraged each other, shared advice, waited for each other, celebrated small wins, and genuinely wanted everyone to have a good time.
I also think training with only women creates a different level of comfort. You don’t feel judged asking certain questions and the overall vibe was just relaxed and motivating.
Another highlight was the balance between training and recovery. The camp was based at the TAUERN SPA, which honestly felt like the best reward after a long ride or run session. Recovery became part of the experience instead of something you squeeze in afterwards. Good food, sauna, pools, mountains everywhere, definitely not difficult to enjoy.
What I personally liked most was that it never felt like one of those super intense “performance camps” where every minute is planned and everyone is obsessed with numbers. Of course the coaching and sessions were professional, but the atmosphere stayed relaxed, friendly and really welcoming throughout the whole weekend.
I left feeling stronger physically, but mostly just really motivated again. Sometimes you forget how much the environment and the people around you can change the entire training experience. And doing all of this in a place like Zell am See-Kaprun with a group of inspiring women made it even more special.
A huge thanks to sporting women for organizing this amazing camp and for bringing so many women together.
